Who Needs a Visa for Belize

Whether you need a visa for Belize depends on your nationality; many nationals enter visa-free for short stays while others must obtain a visa first.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Belize exempts a large number of nationalities from obtaining a visa for short visits, including citizens of the United States and its territories, Canada, European Union member states, CARICOM member states, Commonwealth countries, Mexico and Costa Rica, among others. Nationals of countries not on the exempt list must obtain a visa before travelling.

Eligibility for longer-term routes has its own tests: work permits require you to be residing in Belize with a valid visa; permanent residence requires at least a year of lawful residence with minimal absence; and citizenship by registration generally requires five years of permanent residence or one year of marriage to a Belizean national.
