How to apply for a Barbados visa or permit
How applications work across the Barbados Immigration Department — from the online entry-visa process to paper forms submitted at Immigration Headquarters in Bridgetown.
Important
Applications to the Barbados Immigration Department fall into two broad channels. Entry visas are handled through an online process managed by the Immigration Department in Bridgetown, and the visa is issued as a letter that is presented at airline check-in and to Immigration officials on arrival. Work permits, student visas, extensions of stay, immigrant status, permanent residence and citizenship are made on dedicated paper forms (for example C-1/C-2/C-3 for work permits, H-1 for students, Form A/A1 for status and residence) submitted with originals and photocopies.
For work permits the employer or sponsor — not the worker — makes the application. For students the enrolling institution completes the Certificate of Eligibility (Form H-1). All arriving travellers, visa-required or not, must also complete the online Immigration and Customs form before arrival.
A visa or permit does not guarantee entry: permission to enter Barbados is granted only by the Immigration Officer at the port of entry.
