Barbadian visa resources
Eligibility for Barbados immigration routes
Who qualifies for the main Barbados routes — whether a visa is needed to visit, and the tests applied to work, study, family and residence applications.
Important
Whether you need a visa to visit Barbados depends on your nationality against the official visa-requirement list; nationals not on the list may enter visa-free as genuine visitors, while listed nationals must obtain an entry visa first. CARICOM nationals benefit from separate free-movement arrangements.
For work permits the key test is the labour market: for long-term permits the employer must satisfy the Immigration Department that no qualified Barbadian citizen or resident is available for the role. Student applicants must be enrolled at a Ministry-registered institution and hold a certified Certificate of Eligibility. Family and settlement routes turn on the relationship to a Barbadian (spouse, parent) and on showing the applicant will not become a charge on the state.
Across all routes, applicants must generally provide a police certificate of character for every country lived in for six months or more in the past three years.
