How to apply for a Tunisia visa
The routes for obtaining permission to enter or stay in Tunisia, from visa-free entry to consular visas and residence permits.
Important
How you obtain permission to travel to Tunisia depends on your nationality and your purpose. Nationals covered by Tunisia's visa exemption enter simply by presenting a valid passport at the border, while other travellers must obtain an entry visa in advance from the Tunisian embassy or consulate responsible for their country of residence.
Tunisia has announced an electronic visa (e-visa) platform to allow eligible applicants to apply online; until it is fully operational, visa applications continue to be made through diplomatic missions. For stays beyond a short visit, you apply for a long-stay visa and then, after arrival, a residence permit (carte de séjour) from the Ministry of the Interior.
General steps
- Check whether your nationality needs a visa for your purpose and length of stay
- If visa-free, travel with a valid passport and supporting documents
- If a visa is needed, apply at the responsible Tunisian diplomatic mission (or via the e-visa portal once live)
- For long stays, obtain the long-stay visa and apply for a residence permit after arrival
