Requirements

  • Registration under Section 7(1) is open only to nationals of Commonwealth countries
  • You must already hold permanent residence in Trinidad and Tobago (Permanent Residence Certificate or Certificate of Immigration Status)
  • Complete Form 7 forms and sign them before a Commissioner of Affidavits
  • Provide four referees of standing (e.g. MPs, Justices of the Peace, ministers of religion, medical/legal practitioners, senior civil servants, bank managers, registered teachers) who have known you for at least five (5) years

Documents you may need

  • Three (3) Form 7 forms (First Schedule of the Citizenship Regulations under the Citizenship Act, Chap. 1:50), completed and signed before a Commissioner of Affidavits
  • Birth certificate (original and photocopy); an affidavit if the correct name does not appear
  • For a married woman, the marriage certificate (or Decree Absolute if divorced) — original and photocopy
  • Travel documents/passports, including the documents you entered the country with (original and photocopy)
  • Evidence of permanent residence: Permanent Residence Certificate or Certificate of Immigration Status (original and photocopy)
  • Proof of satisfactory income-tax obligations — Tax Certificate 'B' or 'C'
  • National Insurance card/number (original and photocopy)
  • Trinidad and Tobago identification card or acknowledgement slip (original and photocopy)
  • Four (4) identical passport-sized photographs, each endorsed on the reverse by one of the four referees with the words 'I certify that this is a true likeness of ...', their signature and occupation
