Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Most short-stay visitors who need a visa apply online in advance through Tanzania's official e-Visa portal at visa.immigration.go.tz. You create an application, upload your passport bio-data page and a photograph, choose the correct visa category, pay the fee online and wait for approval before travelling.

Foreign nationals coming to work, invest, study or join family apply for a residence permit or a pass through the e-services portal at eservices.immigration.go.tz. Residence permits are classified as Class A (investors/self-employed), Class B (employment) and Class C (students, researchers, volunteers, missionaries and others), and Class B and C applications are generally made from outside Tanzania.

Citizens of the East African Community and other exempt countries may not need a visa at all for short visits. Always confirm the requirement for your nationality before you travel.
