Whether you need a visa for Tanzania depends first on your nationality. Citizens of East African Community partner states and a number of other exempt countries can enter for short visits without a visa, while most other nationals must obtain the appropriate e-Visa before travelling.
The purpose and length of your stay then determine the category. Tourism, family visits and short business trips are covered by short-stay visas, while working, studying, investing or settling requires a residence permit or pass rather than a visitor visa.
Because exemption lists and entry rules change, travellers should verify the current position for their nationality with the Immigration Services Department before booking travel.
