How to apply for a Somalia visa

Most visitors apply online for an eVisa/eTAS before travelling; work, residence and citizenship routes are handled separately by the ICA.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

For visits, Somalia uses an electronic visa / electronic travel authorisation (eVisa/eTAS) that must be obtained online before arrival. Since 1 September 2025 this replaced the earlier visa-on-arrival arrangement, and travellers who require an eTAS but arrive without one can be refused entry.

You apply through the Immigration and Citizenship Agency portal, complete the online form with your passport and travel details, upload a passport copy and a photo, and pay the fee online. Work permits (via the Ministry of Labour), permits of stay (via the ICA) and naturalisation are applied for separately, generally in person.

Steps for the eVisa/eTAS

  • Check whether your nationality needs an eTAS (visa-exempt nationals and valid permit holders may be exempt)
  • Create an application on the official ICA eVisa/eTAS portal
  • Select the correct category (tourism, business, transit, study, medical, etc.)
  • Upload your passport bio page and photo and enter Somalia accommodation/contact details
  • Pay online and travel with the approved authorisation
