How to apply for a Serbian visa or residence permit
The channel depends on whether you need a short-stay visa, a long-stay (D) visa, or residence and work in Serbia.
Important
Short-stay (C) and long-stay (D) visas are applied for at a Serbian diplomatic-consular mission (embassy or consulate) abroad, or through the electronic visa route on the official Foreign Nationals' Portal. Serbia began issuing electronic visas alongside traditional sticker visas from 23 April 2025.
Temporary residence and the single (residence-and-work) permit are applied for exclusively electronically on the Foreign Nationals' Portal at welcometoserbia.gov.rs. You (or, for employment, your employer) must first register an account on the portal. Permanent residence applications are submitted in person to the Police Directorate for the City of Belgrade – Directorate for Foreign Nationals or the relevant regional police directorate.
Which channel to use
- Short visit (up to 90 days): check if you are visa-free; otherwise apply for a C visa
- Stay longer than 90-180 days: apply for a D visa, then temporary residence
- Work: apply for the single (residence-and-work) permit on the portal
- Permanent residence: apply in person at the competent police directorate
