How to apply for a Sweden visa
How a short-stay Schengen visa and a Sweden national long-stay visa are applied for, with links to the official guidance.
Important
For a short stay (up to 90 days in any 180), you apply for the uniform Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) through Sweden when it is your main destination — the eligibility, documents, fee, insurance and processing follow the shared Schengen rules. For a stay of more than 90 days, you apply for Sweden's national long-stay visa (Type D) through its consular authority, under its own national procedure.
Short stays (Type C)
Follow the shared Schengen process: complete the application form, book an appointment, give biometrics, and provide your supporting documents and travel medical insurance (minimum €30,000 cover). See our Schengen visa guide for the full shared steps.
Long stays (Type D)
National long-stay visas are issued by Sweden under its own rules. Confirm the specific route and its requirements with Sweden's national consular authority.
