Appointments and biometrics for a Sweden visa application
How Swedish residence-permit appointments and biometrics work, including passport presentation, interviews and fingerprints for the residence permit card.
Important
After applying online, applicants generally have to attend in person to have their identity checked and to give biometrics for the residence permit card, which stores your photo and fingerprints on a chip. You book these visits through the Swedish Migration Agency's 'My page'.
If you are outside Sweden, biometrics and passport checks usually take place at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general. If you are already in Sweden and did not need an entry visa, you can be photographed and fingerprinted at a government service centre.
Who needs to book an appointment
- Anyone told by the agency they must present their passport in person.
- Anyone summoned to an interview.
- Anyone who needs an entry visa and must give fingerprints and a photo for the residence permit card.
- Booking is done via 'My page', including for visits to a government service centre.
Biometrics and card delivery
- The residence permit card carries your photo and stored fingerprints.
- If biometrics are taken at an embassy/consulate-general, the card is collected there; it can take up to four weeks to be produced and delivered.
- If taken at a service centre in Sweden, the card is sent to your registered address (around two weeks).
- Bring your passport/ID and your case (file) number to the appointment.
