Processing times for a Slovakia visa application
A Slovak national visa is decided within 30 days, while a temporary-residence decision generally takes up to 90 days.
Important
Slovakia sets statutory decision windows for its national process. These are maximum periods measured from when a complete application is received; incomplete files, missing translations or the need to verify documents can extend the real-world timeline, so applicants are advised to begin well before their intended travel date.
Appointment availability is a separate, often longer, constraint: securing a slot in the reservation system to lodge the application can add months, and this waiting time sits on top of the statutory decision period.
Statutory decision periods
- National (Type D) visa: the diplomatic mission decides within 30 days of receiving the application
- Temporary residence: the Foreign Police decides within 90 days of receiving the application
- A shorter 30-day decision applies in defined priority cases (e.g. accompanying a person working for a significant foreign investor)
- Single-permit (combined work-and-residence) applications have their own shorter statutory window
Plan for appointment lead time
- Applicants are advised to reserve their appointment well in advance of the intended move
- The reservation wait is additional to the statutory decision period
- Start assembling apostilled and translated documents early, as several have limited validity windows
