Appointments and biometrics for a Slovakia application
Applications are lodged by appointment at a Slovak embassy or a Foreign Police office, and biometrics are captured for the residence card.
Important
Where you lodge a Slovak national application depends on your situation: a national (Type D) visa is filed at the Slovak embassy or consulate in your home country or country of legal stay, while a temporary-residence application can be filed either at a Slovak embassy abroad or at a Foreign Police department inside Slovakia. Appointments at Foreign Police offices must be booked through the official reservation system run by the Ministry of Interior.
Biometric data is collected as part of issuing the residence card. Slovakia issues a polycarbonate biometric residence card, and applicants provide fingerprints and a facial image (photograph), along with a signature, at the Foreign Police office.
Booking the appointment
- Foreign Police appointments are reserved only through the Ministry of Interior's official reservation system
- Applicants are advised to book well in advance, as slots can be limited
- National-visa appointments are arranged through the relevant Slovak embassy/consulate
Biometrics and card collection
- Fingerprints and a facial image/photograph are captured at the Foreign Police office
- A biometric residence card (polycarbonate, similar to the Slovak ID card) is produced after approval
- The card is collected in person from the Foreign Police department
