Documents for a Romania visa application
Type D visa and residence permit files share a core set (passport, means, insurance, clean record) plus purpose-specific proof for each route.
Important
The documents required for a Romania national long-stay application depend on the visa category, but IGI's route pages set out a consistent core. For the visa stage, applicants generally submit proof of the qualifying purpose, evidence of financial means of support, medical insurance valid for the whole visa period, and a criminal record certificate from the country of origin or residence.
After arriving in Romania, a separate file is submitted to IGI for the residence permit. This typically adds an application form, the passport/travel document (original and copy), proof of dwelling space (such as an ownership title or a lease registered with the tax office), health insurance and, where relevant, civil-status documents.
Core documents by route (examples)
- Employment: copy of the work permit issued by IGI (or proof of exemption), proof of means equal to the guaranteed minimum gross salary for the visa period, criminal record certificate, medical insurance
- Studies: proof of acceptance issued by the Ministry of Education, proof of tuition paid for at least one year, proof of means (minimum net monthly wage), criminal record certificate, medical insurance, parental consent if a minor
- Family reunification: marriage certificate issued/transcribed by Romanian authorities or other proof of kinship/partnership, travel medical insurance (minimum EUR 30,000 cover), criminal record certificate
- Medical treatment: proof of the medical purpose, proof of accommodation, medical insurance for the visa period, criminal record certificate
For the residence permit (after arrival)
- Application form
- Passport/travel document (original and copy)
- Proof of dwelling space (ownership title, registered lease, authenticated bailment, etc.)
- Proof of health/social health insurance
- Proof of financial means (except Romanian citizens' family members)
- Romanian criminal record certificate and civil-status documents where applicable
