Appointments and biometrics for a Romania application
The long-stay visa is lodged at a Romanian mission abroad; the residence permit is applied for in person at an IGI territorial office, with appointments bookable through the IGI portal.
Important
The national long-stay (Type D) visa is applied for in person at a Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office in your country of residence. Once in Romania, the residence permit application must be submitted in person at the IGI territorial unit for your county; the permit is issued as a physical card and collected from the IGI office where you applied, or sent to you by courier at your own cost.
IGI runs an online portal (portaligi.mai.gov.ro) where you can create an account, upload your documents and request an appointment. After your documents are reviewed, IGI communicates the date and time of your counter appointment at the territorial office.
Booking via the IGI portal
- Create an individual or legal-entity account at portaligi.mai.gov.ro/portaligi/
- Upload the required documents to request an appointment
- The gap between IGI receiving the request and scheduling the appointment is a maximum of 15 calendar days
- You must confirm and attach all required documents up to 10 days before the appointment, or the appointment is cancelled
In-person attendance
The application for the residence permit is submitted in person at the IGI counter. The residence permit is an electronic card bearing the holder's photograph.
