Processing times for a Romania visa application
IGI's favourable opinion for a long-stay visa is issued within 30 days (extendable by 15); residence permits are decided within 30 days, and long-term residence within 6 months.
Important
Romania publishes statutory deadlines for the national stages of the process. For several long-stay visa routes the favourable opinion from IGI is issued within 30 days of the request, with the possibility of a 15-day extension. The long-stay visa, once granted, is valid for 90 days with one or more entries, during which you must arrange your residence permit.
The residence permit application submitted to IGI after arrival is resolved within 30 days of submission, extendable by a further 15 days where additional checks are needed. If your file is incomplete, IGI may request further documents within a reasonable time limit not exceeding 30 days.
Key statutory deadlines
- Favourable opinion for a long-stay visa: within 30 days, extendable by 15 days

Apply in good time
The residence permit file must be submitted in person at least 30 days before the right to stay granted by your visa expires, so plan the appointment well within the 90-day visa window.
