Norwegian Residence permit for skilled workers (faglært)

Who it's for

• Non-EU/EEA nationals with a concrete job offer from a Norwegian employer
• People with completed vocational training, a university/college degree, or equivalent special qualifications
• Includes specific groups such as athletes, coaches and religious leaders under the skilled-worker framework

Requirements

• Qualify as a skilled worker (vocational training of normally 3+ years, a degree, or special qualifications with long experience)
• Hold a concrete job offer from one specific employer for work that requires those qualifications
• The job is normally full-time and offers pay and conditions equal to Norwegian standards
• Meet the applicable minimum income level set by UDI
• In most cases, have the employer/client confirm the offer through UDI before you submit

What you can do

• Work for the employer and in the role specified in your permit
• Bring your spouse/cohabitant and children through family immigration
• Build time toward permanent residence (after 3 years)
• If you lose your job, you generally have a limited period to find new work (notify the police within the required deadline)

How to apply

Secure a concrete job offer. Where required, your employer or client first confirms the offer through UDI and you receive a code to enter in your application.

Create a user account, complete the online application, pay the fee, and book an appointment to hand in documents at a Norwegian embassy/consulate (if abroad) or the police (if you meet the conditions to apply from Norway).

Attend your appointment with the required documents. If granted, you receive a residence card.

• Valid passport
• Completed application form and receipt of paid fee
• Employment contract / concrete job offer on the UDI standard terms
• Documentation of education and/or relevant work experience
• Any employer confirmation code where required
