Norwegian Residence permit for self-employed persons

Who it's for

• Skilled non-EU/EEA nationals who will run their own business in Norway long-term
• Founders/owners whose enterprise needs their specific competence to operate
• People who can document a viable, income-generating business plan

Requirements

• Qualify as a skilled worker (vocational training, a degree, or equivalent special qualifications)
• Show that the business is or will be established in Norway and needs your competence
• Document that the business will generate enough income to meet the subsistence requirement
• Provide business documentation (registration, accounts/budget, contracts as relevant)

What you can do

• Operate your own business in Norway within the scope of the permit
• Renew the permit while the business remains viable
• Apply for family immigration for close family members
• Build toward permanent residence over time (subject to conditions)

How to apply

Prepare your business documentation showing the enterprise, your role and the expected income.

Complete the online application on udi.no, pay the fee, and book an appointment at a Norwegian embassy/consulate or the police to submit documents.

Attend the appointment with the required documents; if granted, collect your residence card.
