Documents for a Greece national long-stay visa application
A Greek national (Type D) application needs the long-stay application form, an ICAO-standard photo, a valid passport and category-specific supporting documents.
Important
For a Greek national long-stay visa you lodge a dedicated application (not the Schengen short-stay form) at the competent Greek consulate. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes the official long-stay application form, which must be completed and signed and accompanied by a recent colour photograph meeting ICAO specifications.
On top of the core identity documents, you must supply the documents that prove your specific purpose of stay (work, study, family reunification and so on). Once in Greece, the residence-permit stage adds further Greek-specific items such as a tax number (AFM) and a criminal-record certificate.
Core documents at the consulate
- The completed and signed national (long-stay) visa application form
- A recent colour photograph conforming to ICAO standards
- A valid passport covering the intended period of stay
- Proof of accommodation in Greece (e.g. rental agreement or invitation)
- Proof of sufficient financial means for the stay
- Health insurance valid for the duration of stay
- Documents evidencing the purpose of stay (work contract, university acceptance letter, family/marriage certificate, etc.)
Additional items for the in-country residence permit
When you convert the visa into a residence permit inside Greece, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum process typically also requires:
- A Greek tax identification number (AFM)
- A criminal-record / police clearance certificate
- Category-specific supporting documents uploaded as PDFs through the online portal
