Greece's immigration authorities for long-stay applications
Two bodies share the process: Greek consulates (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) issue the national visa, and the Ministry of Migration and Asylum issues residence permits.

Greece's national long-stay process is split between two authorities. Abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mfa.gr), through its diplomatic missions and consular posts, receives and decides national (Type D) visa applications in the jurisdiction where you legally reside.
Inside Greece, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum (migration.gov.gr) is responsible for residence permits. Its Directorate of Residence Permits states its objective is to issue all types of residence permits and to support the service of third-country nationals, working through departments for standard applicants and for investors.
Who does what
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (consulates/embassies) - issue the national entry visa; appointments are made directly with the consulate
- Ministry of Migration and Asylum - Directorate of Residence Permits - issues and renews residence permits
- Decentralized Administrations / local migration (Aliens and Immigration) services - handle in-country appointments and biometrics
- Applications and renewals are increasingly filed through the Ministry's online portal (applications.migration.gov.gr / gov.gr)
