Appointments and biometrics for a Greece application
You book an in-person consulate appointment for the national visa, then attend a local migration office in Greece for residence-permit biometrics.
Important
The Greek national long-stay process involves two in-person stages. First, at the consulate abroad, you must make an appointment to lodge your national visa application in person; consulates state that services are by appointment only, arranged by phone or email (some posts use an external visa application centre). At this stage a recent ICAO-standard photograph is taken and fingerprints are captured.
After you enter Greece and file the residence-permit application (largely online through the Ministry of Migration and Asylum portal), you are called to a local migration office or Decentralized Administration to provide biometric data in person - Greece collects biometrics for all residence permits and issues a biometric card.
At the consulate (national visa)
- Book the appointment in advance; lodging is in person and by appointment only
- Bring the completed long-stay form and supporting documents
- A digital facial image and fingerprints are captured as part of biometric collection
In Greece (residence permit)
- Submit the residence-permit application online via the Ministry portal
- Book and attend an appointment at the competent migration office for biometrics
- Fingerprints are taken in person; a biometric residence-permit card is then produced
