Appointments and biometrics for a Finland visa application
How to book an appointment and give biometrics for a Finnish residence permit or D visa, at a Finnish mission, VFS centre or Migri service point.
Important
After you submit a residence permit application online (or prepare a paper application), you must attend an appointment in person to prove your identity and give biometric data. Abroad, this is done at a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate) or at a VFS Global application centre, to which Finland has outsourced the reception of applications and the collection of biometrics; in eligible cases it can be done at a Migri service point in Finland.
Proving your identity is the point at which your processing time begins, so book and attend the appointment promptly after applying.
Booking the appointment
- Apply first in Enter Finland, then book the appointment at the Finnish mission, VFS centre or service point.
- Bring your valid passport (or other accepted travel document) to prove your identity in person.
- For a D visa, you also leave your passport at the mission so the visa sticker can be attached.
Biometrics collected
- Your facial photograph, fingerprints and signature are captured for the residence permit card.
- The residence permit card contains a chip storing a facial image and two fingerprints.
- Biometric data collected for a residence permit card is stored in accordance with Finnish law.
