Important
All foreign visitors to Papua New Guinea need a visa. Whether you can obtain a visa on arrival, apply online for an eVisa, or must lodge in advance depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit. Visa on arrival is available only to nationals of selected countries listed on the ICA website; Melanesian Spearhead Group passport holders and certain Chinese travellers also qualify for visa on arrival.
Applicants must be of good health and character. A medical health certificate and local police clearance may be required depending on the purpose and duration of the visit, and a police certificate is required for anyone aged 16 or over intending to stay six months or more. Any criminal conviction or prosecution must be disclosed at the time of application.
