How to apply for an Oman visa

Most short-stay visitors apply online through the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal, while residence, work, study and family visas are applied for by a sponsor inside Oman.

Oman runs two broad application channels. Short-stay visitors from eligible nationalities apply themselves through the Royal Oman Police (ROP) eVisa portal at evisa.rop.gov.om, creating an account, choosing a visa class, uploading a passport scan and photo, paying online and receiving the approved visa as a PDF by email to print and present at immigration.

Residence-based visas (employment, family joining, student, investor) are sponsor-driven: an Omani employer, institution, family member or the investor's own company initiates the application through the ROP, usually after obtaining any required approval from the Ministry of Labour or Ministry of Higher Education. The applicant then completes a medical examination and biometrics and receives a resident card after entry.

GCC citizens do not apply for a visa at all, and certain GCC residents in approved professions can obtain a visa on arrival at the border or a GCC Resident eVisa online.

Application channels

  • ROP eVisa portal (evisa.rop.gov.om) for tourist, transit and GCC-resident visit visas
  • Sponsor-initiated ROP application for employment, family, student and investor residence
  • Visa on arrival at approved land, air and sea entry points for eligible travellers
