The NZeTA and the visitor levy
Visa-waiver travellers need an NZeTA before they fly or cruise to New Zealand, usually paid together with the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy.
Important
The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) is mandatory for visa-waiver air and cruise passengers and crew. Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport are exempt, but Australian permanent residents need one. It is valid for up to 2 years for travellers (5 years for crew) and is issued within 72 hours of request.
Most NZeTA holders also pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) of NZD $100 at the same time. The levy funds conservation and tourism infrastructure and is not refundable. The cheapest way to request an NZeTA is the official free INZ mobile app.
