Visa Extension, Stay Limits and Overstay Rules

Tourists can extend their stay in-country through the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (and the Pokhara immigration office) up to a maximum number of days within a single visa year, which in Nepal runs on the calendar year from January to December. Extensions are charged on a per-day basis with a minimum extension period, and the total tourist stay in a visa year is capped.
Overstaying beyond the validity of a visa is a serious matter and attracts fines and possible further penalties on departure. Travellers should always extend before their current visa expires, and keep proof of the visa and any extension while in Nepal.
