Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Eligibility for a Nepal visa depends on nationality and purpose. Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal. Nationals of most other countries can obtain a tourist visa on arrival, while nationals of a small number of countries are not eligible for on-arrival visas and must apply in advance at a Nepali diplomatic mission.

For non-tourist purposes, eligibility is tied to meeting the conditions of the specific category — for example an approved work permit for employment, admission to a recognised institution for study, an approved investment for business or residential visas, or marriage to a Nepali citizen for a marital visa.

Key points

  • Indian nationals: no visa required
  • Most nationalities: tourist visa available on arrival
  • A limited list of nationalities: must obtain a visa in advance
  • Long-stay categories: eligibility tied to the specific route's conditions
