Who it is for

  • Spouses, partners and dependent children of Mozambican citizens
  • Family members and dependants of foreign nationals legally resident in Mozambique
  • People joining a relative to live in Mozambique long-term

Requirements

  • Valid passport
  • Evidence of the family relationship (e.g. marriage or birth certificates)
  • Evidence of the sponsor's Mozambican citizenship or legal residence
  • Registration with SENAMI after arrival to obtain the DIRE

How to apply

Obtain the residence visa from the nearest Mozambican embassy or consulate before travelling — residence is one of the categories that must be arranged in advance rather than online or at the border. The visa is single-entry and must be used within 60 days of issuance.

After arriving, apply to the Serviço Nacional de Migração (SENAMI) for the DIRE residence permit, which lets a dependant reside in Mozambique for the duration of the primary permit holder's stay.

Documents you may need

  • Passport valid 6+ months with blank pages
  • Marriage certificate (spouse) or birth certificate / notarised parental consent (child), translated and notarised where required
  • Authenticated police clearance
  • The primary holder's residence / work authorisation
  • Completed application form and passport photos

Frequently asked questions

  • Not automatically. A dependant who wants to work would need separate work authorisation; the family/residence route covers residing with the primary permit holder.
