Mongolia offers two principal ways to obtain a visa. Eligible nationals who are not on the visa-exemption list can apply online for an e-visa through the official portal at evisa.mn, choosing categories such as the K2 tourist, K4 sports/culture/media, or K6 transit visa. E-visa applicants do not need to visit a diplomatic mission or submit their passport in person and receive the approved visa by email.

For employment, study, family, business and other long-stay purposes, applicants generally apply for the relevant lettered visa (B, C, E, F and others) with an invitation or sponsorship from a Mongolian organisation, institution or family member, typically through a Mongolian diplomatic mission.

Anyone intending to stay in Mongolia for more than 90 days must register with the Immigration Agency after arrival and apply for a residence permit within 21 days of entry.
