How to Apply for Residence in Monaco
The step-by-step route to living in Monaco, from the French long-stay visa for non-EEA nationals to the residence-permit application at the Residents Section.
Important
Monaco does not issue its own long-stay visas. Non-EEA nationals who intend to live in the Principality must first obtain a French long-stay visa (type D) for Monaco through the French consulate nearest their previous residence. EEA and associated-State nationals do not need a visa and apply for the residence permit directly.
Anyone aged 16 or over who will stay more than three months, or take up residence, then applies for a residence permit (carte de séjour) at the Public Security Department's Residents Section. Applications can be made online through the teleservice platform or in person at 9 rue Suffren-Reymond, Monaco.
First-time applicants receive a Temporary permit. The application is assessed on three core conditions — suitable accommodation, sufficient financial resources, and good character.
