For an e-Visa, applicants generally need a passport valid for the intended stay, a recent passport-style photograph, and their travel details entered into the online form. Depending on the purpose of travel, the Department may request proof of accommodation, onward or return travel, or an invitation letter for business visits.

Permit applications (employment, student, business or permanent residence) are made on the Department's own forms and submitted with supporting documents to Immigration Headquarters or a Regional Immigration Office, together with the processing fee.
