The Department of Immigration processes e-Visa applications online, with applications generally decided within a few business days, though travellers should apply well in advance of travel. For citizenship, the Department states it aims to process applications within forty working days, during which applicants may be interviewed and asked for further documents.

Permit decisions (employment, student, business and permanent residence) follow review by the relevant immigration officer or the Minister, with formal notification of approval or rejection; applicants pay the appropriate fees once approved.
