Requirements
Even where a visa is not required in advance, every traveller must satisfy Libya's standard entry conditions at the border, and exemptions are narrow and nationality-specific.
Visa-free access does not remove Libya's general rule that most visitors need a local sponsor or a registered tour operator; independent, unsponsored entry is normally refused.
- A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry, with clear pages
- Belong to a nationality or category that Libya currently exempts (exemptions are limited and can change at short notice)
- For an exemption tied to a specific airport, arrive only at a permitted port of entry
- Be able to show sufficient funds and, where required, evidence of a sponsor or host in Libya
- No Israeli visa or entry stamp in the passport, which Libya refuses entry on
How to apply
If your nationality is exempt, you do not apply in advance — you present your passport and supporting documents to immigration officers on arrival, who make the final decision at the border.
If you are not covered by an exemption, you must obtain a visa before travel: either an eVisa through Libya's official portal at evisa.gov.ly, or a visa from a Libyan embassy or consulate, in both cases normally with a Libyan sponsor or tour operator arranged first.
