How to Apply for a Libya Visa
The two main routes into Libya's visa system — the online eVisa portal and embassy applications — and the sponsorship that both require.
Important
Most foreign nationals apply for a Libya visa in one of two ways: online through the official eVisa portal (evisa.gov.ly), launched in March 2024, or in person at a Libyan embassy or consulate. The right channel depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit.
Almost every category requires backing from within Libya — a registered tour operator, a sponsoring company, an educational institution, a family host or an employer. Applications are vetted by the Libyan authorities, and many require final approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli before a visa is issued.
Because independent tourism is generally not permitted and requirements change with the security situation, always confirm the current process with the official authority or the Libyan embassy responsible for your country before making arrangements.
