For an e-visa or visa on arrival, applicants are generally asked for a passport valid for the duration of stay, a recent passport-style photograph, and biographical and travel details.

Additional documents commonly required include proof of accommodation, a return or onward travel ticket, and a yellow-fever vaccination certificate. ECOWAS nationals may travel on a valid national identity card in place of a passport.

Long-stay, work, study, family and residence applications require further evidence such as an employment contract and work permit, a letter of acceptance from an institution, proof of relationship, a criminal-record certificate, and proof of financial means.
