ECOWAS free movement and Guinea-Bissau
As an ECOWAS member, Guinea-Bissau allows nationals of member states to enter without a visa for short stays under the regional free-movement protocol.
Important
Guinea-Bissau is a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and applies the ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, Residence and Establishment. Under this protocol, nationals of member states may enter Guinea-Bissau without a visa for short stays, travelling on a valid passport or national identity card.
Free movement for short visits does not by itself grant the right to work or reside indefinitely; ECOWAS nationals who wish to stay long-term, take up employment or establish a business must still complete the relevant residence and permit formalities with the Migration Office.
The Directorate responsible for regional integration oversees Guinea-Bissau's application of the free-movement protocol.
