Who it is for

  • Travellers passing through Eswatini to reach another country
  • Nationals who would otherwise require a visa to enter

How to apply

  • Apply through the eVisa portal or an Eswatini mission before travel
  • Provide passport, photographs and evidence of onward travel

Requirements

The single most important rule for transit through Eswatini is that you must declare it. Your application must clearly state that you are transiting and give a clear reason for passing through the Kingdom. Travellers who do not indicate their transit purpose can be turned back to the point of entry they arrived from.

  • State your transit purpose and give a clear reason for routing through Eswatini on the application form
  • Hold a passport valid for onward travel with at least two unused pages for entry and departure stamps
  • Be able to prove your onward journey: a confirmed onward or return ticket, or proof of sufficient funds to continue
  • Carry any visa or entry document required by your final destination country
  • Carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from, or passing through, a yellow fever risk area

Documents you may need

  • Passport valid for onward travel, with at least two unused pages
  • Completed application form with a signed statement of your transit purpose and dates
  • Two recent identity (passport-style) photographs
  • Confirmed onward or return ticket, or proof of sufficient funds for onward travel
  • Visa or entry permit for your onward destination, where one is required
  • Yellow fever certificate if arriving from or passing through a yellow fever area

Frequently asked questions

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs is explicit that travellers who do not indicate a clear transit purpose in their application may be returned to the point of entry they used to arrive in Eswatini. Always state that you are transiting and why.
