Who needs a visa for Eswatini

Visa need is decided by nationality and purpose — many nationals are visa-exempt for short visits, others must apply in advance.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Eswatini visas are required by certain tourists, business visitors, interns and volunteer workers to enter and stay for a short period. Whether you need one depends on your country of origin: if your nationality is not on the Ministry's list of countries that require a visa, you generally do not need to apply for one for a short visit.

Holding a visa does not by itself guarantee entry — Immigration Officers at the port of entry retain final authority to admit or refuse a traveller. Anyone intending to stay longer than the permitted short-stay period, or to work or study, must obtain the appropriate residence permit rather than relying on an entry visa.

Key points

  • Visa need depends on nationality and purpose of visit
  • Visa-exempt nationals are granted a short stay on arrival
  • Stays beyond the permitted short-stay period require a Temporary Residence Permit
  • A visa does not guarantee admission; the Immigration Officer decides at the border
