Who needs a visa for Eswatini
Visa need is decided by nationality and purpose — many nationals are visa-exempt for short visits, others must apply in advance.
Important
Eswatini visas are required by certain tourists, business visitors, interns and volunteer workers to enter and stay for a short period. Whether you need one depends on your country of origin: if your nationality is not on the Ministry's list of countries that require a visa, you generally do not need to apply for one for a short visit.
Holding a visa does not by itself guarantee entry — Immigration Officers at the port of entry retain final authority to admit or refuse a traveller. Anyone intending to stay longer than the permitted short-stay period, or to work or study, must obtain the appropriate residence permit rather than relying on an entry visa.
Key points
- Visa need depends on nationality and purpose of visit
- Visa-exempt nationals are granted a short stay on arrival
- Stays beyond the permitted short-stay period require a Temporary Residence Permit
- A visa does not guarantee admission; the Immigration Officer decides at the border
