This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Most visa and residence applications for Ecuador are made exclusively online through the e-VISAS platform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility (serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec), which is available 24 hours a day.

The general process is to register on the platform, select your migratory condition (for example 'Visitante temporal' or 'Residente temporal') and the specific visa type, complete your personal and passport details, upload the required documents, and pay the fees. Payment must normally be completed the same day the application is created (until 23:55 Ecuador time) or the application is automatically deleted.

Depending on the visa, it may be issued through an Ecuadorian embassy or consulate abroad or through a Zonal Directorate inside Ecuador. Documents issued abroad usually need to be translated into Spanish and apostilled or legalised.

Typical steps

  • Register an account on the e-VISAS platform
  • Select the migratory condition and visa type
  • Complete the application and upload documents
  • Pay the application and issuance fees within the payment window
  • Await review and, if approved, issuance of the visa
