Who needs a visa for Ecuador
Whether you need a Ecuador visa depends on your nationality and the purpose and length of your stay.
Important
For tourism, nationals of most countries can enter Ecuador visa-free and receive a stay on arrival. Nationals of a defined list of special-regime countries must obtain a tourist visitor visa before travelling.
For any stay beyond tourism - working, studying, joining family, investing, or settling - a visa is required regardless of nationality. Ecuador's framework distinguishes temporary residence (generally two years, renewable) from permanent residence (indefinite), with family, work, study, investor, rentista and remote-work categories under temporary residence.
Eligibility for each visa depends on meeting that category's specific conditions - for example an employment contract for the work visa, enrolment for the student visa, or a qualifying investment for the investor visa.
