How nationality and purpose of travel determine whether you need a tourist visa, another visa category, or qualify for visa-free entry.
Important
Whether you need a visa for Cuba depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit. Most visitors need a tourist visa/tourist card (now largely the e-Visa) for tourism, while work, study, family, business and residence each require the matching visa category applied for through a consulate.
A small number of countries have bilateral agreements that allow their nationals to enter visa-free for short stays. Travellers passing through Cuba may also benefit from a short-transit exemption. Because these rules change, MINREX recommends checking the current guidance for your nationality before booking travel.

- Tourism: tourist e-Visa/tourist card, unless covered by a visa-free agreement
- Work, study, family, business/events: apply for the specific visa category via a consulate
- Transit: short transits may be exempt from visa/tourist-card requirements
- Settlement: residence is applied for through the DIIE on recognised grounds
