Visas to enter Bolivia are applied for before travel, either at a Bolivian consulate abroad or online through the DIGEMIG Go platform run by the Dirección General de Migración. The route depends on your nationality's group and the purpose of travel.

Residence permits (permanencia temporal and permanencia definitiva) and naturalisation are processed inside Bolivia at DIGEMIG central or departmental offices after you have entered with the appropriate visa or status.

General steps

  • Confirm your nationality's group (I, II or III) and whether a visa is needed
  • Choose the correct visa or permit for your purpose (tourism, work, study, family, business, residence)
  • Apply at a Bolivian consulate or via DIGEMIG Go, with all supporting documents
  • For stays beyond a visitor entry, process the corresponding residence permit at DIGEMIG in Bolivia
