Bhutan visa fees and the Sustainable Development Fee
Tourists pay a one-off visa fee plus a nightly Sustainable Development Fee, with sharply reduced rates for regional nationals and children.
Important
Tourists from countries other than India, Bangladesh and the Maldives pay a one-time visa application fee of USD 40 per person, plus a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) charged per person per night of stay. The SDF is a government levy collected under the Tourism Act and used to fund services such as healthcare, education and environmental protection.
The SDF for these visitors is USD 100 per person per night, a reduced rate in effect from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2027. Nationals of India, Bangladesh and the Maldives pay a concessional SDF of Nu. 1,200 per person per night. Children aged 6 to 12 receive a 50% discount on the SDF and children aged 5 and under are exempt.
The SDF and visa fee are paid in advance as part of the visa or permit application.
