How to Apply for a Bahamas Permit or Visa
How applications to the Bahamas Department of Immigration and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are made, from forms and fees to the eServices online portal.
Important
Most residence and work permits are handled by the Department of Immigration, while entry visas are handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Residence and work applications are made on the Department's First Schedule forms (for example Form 1, Form 1A for spouses, Form 1B for belongers) accompanied by a letter of request addressed to the Director of Immigration and a set of supporting documents. Applications are lodged with the Director of Immigration, P.O. Box N-831, Nassau, or through the Department's eServices online portal.
A non-refundable processing fee of US$200 applies to most permit applications and is payable by credit or debit card, postal money order or bank certified cheque. Application forms typically require a US$10 Bahamian postage stamp. For entry visas, eligible applicants use the Ministry of Foreign Affairs eVisa online service. Remote-worker and student applicants use the BEATS online portal, which is fully digital.
A recurring rule for first-time residence applicants is that they should not be in the country while the application is being processed.
