How to apply for an Armenian visa or residence permit

The route you use depends on your nationality and purpose: enter visa-free, apply online for an e-visa, get a visa through an embassy, or apply in person for residence status once in Armenia.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

For short visits, first check whether your nationality is visa-exempt. If it is not, most travellers apply online through the official e-visa portal at evisa.mfa.am, receive the visa by email as a PDF, and present it with a valid passport at the border. Nationals of certain countries cannot use the e-visa and must apply for a visitor visa through an Armenian embassy or consulate, in some cases with an invitation.

For longer stays, work, study or family reasons, you apply for a residence status rather than a visa. The Migration and Citizenship Service handles temporary, permanent and special residence applications, generally in person at its office in Yerevan (14 Tairov Street) by appointment, while employment-based residence and work permits are filed online. Citizenship applications are filed electronically through the Migration and Citizenship Service.

Choose the right route

  • Short visit: check visa-free eligibility first, then e-visa, then embassy visa
  • Long stay: apply for temporary, permanent or special residence status
  • Work: employer files through the online work-permit / employment residence system
  • Study: apply for a temporary residence permit on study grounds
  • Family: apply for temporary residence based on marriage or family ties
