Important
To enter Vanuatu, travellers generally need a passport valid for more than six months on arrival and evidence of an onward or return journey. These entry and departure requirements draw on the Passport Act No. 20 of 2009 and are enforced alongside the Immigration Act No. 17 of 2010.
Vanuatu does not operate a paid visa-on-arrival scheme; instead, nationals of exempted countries are granted a visitor permit free of charge on arrival for short tourism stays. Travellers who are not exempt must obtain a visitor or tourist visa in advance, usually through the eVisa portal, before boarding.
Travellers on a one-way ticket may face additional checks, and anyone passing through Vanuatu who intends to leave the airport transit area must hold a tourist visa rather than a transit visa.
