How to Apply for a Turkmenistan Visa
The general steps to obtain a Turkmenistan visa, from securing a Letter of Invitation to collecting the visa at a consulate or Ashgabat airport.
Important
For almost every Turkmenistan visa, the starting point is a Letter of Invitation that must be approved by the State Migration Service. Depending on the purpose, the invitation is arranged by a licensed tour operator (tourism), an inviting company or organisation (business), an employer (work), an educational institution (study) or a host (private visit).
Once the invitation is approved, the visa itself is issued by a Turkmen embassy or consulate abroad, or at Ashgabat International Airport for travellers whose invitation has been pre-approved. After arrival, foreign nationals typically must register with the State Migration Service.
Typical steps
- Arrange a Letter of Invitation via the appropriate sponsor (operator, employer, institution or host)
- Wait for State Migration Service approval of the invitation
- Apply for the visa at a Turkmen mission, or collect it at Ashgabat airport if pre-approved
- Pay the consular fee for the chosen duration and number of entries
- Register with the State Migration Service after arrival where required
