ECOWAS Free Movement and Living in Togo

Togo is part of the ECOWAS free-movement zone, so regional citizens enter without a visa but still need residence formalities for longer stays.

As a member of ECOWAS (CEDEAO), Togo allows citizens of member states to enter without an entry visa under the regional free-movement protocol. This is a key difference from the e-visa regime that applies to other nationalities.

Free movement covers entry and short stays; anyone staying beyond a short visit to work, study or settle must still register and obtain a residence card (carte de séjour) from the DGDN, and citizenship follows the same naturalisation rules as for other foreigners.
