Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

All applicants need a passport valid for the duration of the intended stay and, for the ETA, the personal and travel details entered into the online form. The Department's residence-visa guidance repeatedly requires a copy of the bio-data page of the applicant's passport plus category-specific supporting documents.

Residence-visa categories add further evidence: employment visas need employer or Board of Investment (BOI) sponsorship and ministry approvals; student visas need a letter from the approved institution; spouse and dependant visas need marriage and birth certificates; investor and scheme-based visas need proof of the qualifying investment or deposit.

Citizenship and dual-citizenship applications require additional items such as police clearance, an affidavit, passport photographs and certified copies of birth, marriage and citizenship documents, authenticated by the Department or a Sri Lankan overseas mission.
