Requirements

  • Hosting agreement with an accredited research organisation in Slovakia
  • Valid passport and completed application form (in Slovak) with photos
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Proof of financial means
  • Health insurance
  • Foreign documents translated into Slovak and apostilled, generally no older than 90 days

  • Carry out the research described in the hosting agreement
  • Bring family members who can immediately work, study and run a business
  • Stay around nine extra months after the research ends to seek work or start a business
  • Conduct research in Slovakia for up to a year on another EU state's permit under mobility rules

How to apply

File the application at a Slovak embassy/consulate abroad or, in defined cases, at the Foreign Police Department, with the hosting agreement, passport, criminal record certificate, proof of funds and insurance.

Initial applications are free of the state fee; the residence document carries a €4.50 administrative charge. Intra-EU mobility requires the host organisation to notify the Ministry of Interior in advance.
